Andean Railways to invest US$11 million in first year of operations
Andean Railways announced it will invest US$11 million during the first year of operations covering the route from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu in Cusco, southeastern Peru.
Andean Railways Executive President Jose Daniel Amado confirmed that the company will officially begin rail service to the ancient Inca citadel on Friday, August 20, 2010.
Amado said that competition in the rail sector is beneficial both for tourists and investment in the area, which have reached 20 million dollars in recent years. Andean Railways will be the third train operator transporting tourists to Peru's top attraction.
Andean Railways' Machu Picchu Train will cover the route from the Ollantaytambo station to Machu Picchu on three different schedules.
