About 135,000 tourists visited alternative attractions to Machu Picchu

• Some 134,513 Peruvian and foreign tourists have visited alternative attractions to Machu Picchu so far this year, Cusco's Committee on Tourist-Cultural Integrated Services (Cosituc) reported today.

  Of this number 100,951 were foreigners and 33,562 were Peruvians, who leave profits of 11.6 million soles (4.1 million dollars).

  Archaeological parks like Sacsayhuamán, Ollantaytambo, Tambomachay, Tipón, Písac, Chinchero and Quenqo attract the interest of European, American and Latin-American tourists.

  Cosituc President Orlando Olivera said that although the number of visitors hasn't reached January levels, Cusco authoritites are trying their best to recover tourist inflow.

  Olivera said that despite the difficult situation, tourists continued to arrive in the Imperial City, which was visited by about 35,000 people only in March.

  The Cosituc official explained that the economic resources will be invested in the maintenance of access roads to Pisac, Tipon and Qenqo; the preservation of Inca ruins; and the improvement of health and safety services for tourists.
